Listen up everyone – We’re not sure if you know this yet but we have carefully curated the coolest bunch of brands & creatives to come along to the Byron Bay Surf Festival this year. Now some of them have chosen to set up in these incredible interactive tipis and we can’t wait to tell you who our tipi takers are. So if you’re anything like us (ie. a fastidious festival planner who likes to cyber stalk everyone who’s coming and get a good feel for what’s on) then let us make it easy for you. Here’s one of a few “festival form guides” we’ll be sending out focusing on the goodies, the services and the organisations that will be showcased at our Surf Art Markets brought to you by SurfStitch, happening on Day 2 of the BBSF – Saturday February 25. We’ll get to our huge list of market stalls another newsletter because for now it’s… Tipi Time!

Why We Love Them:
Not only are the people that run this company absolute legends, they make great beer and care about important stuff as well. These guys are a B-Corp company meaning that everything they do has positive repercussions for the environment and the community. They also support the local community in many ways, are environmentally conscious and create a great work environment for their staff. We love them!

Why We Love Them: Apart from the fact every woman in our office behind the scenes covets their stuff, the ladies behind this business are worldclass warrior women who know how to win the hearts of customers all over the globe. These guys are absolute angels and it only feels right that they come back to their market roots at our Surf Art Market.

Why We Love Them: Designed in our very own Byron Bay, these hats are inspired from past, present and future visions and make you feel like a legend when you wear them. Seen on the heads of Rock Icons like Iggy Pop, fashion rebels like Cara Delevingne, pro surfers, skateboarders, activists & actors, the kids down the road and ma and pop down the street. The beauty of a fallenbrokenstreet hat is its dedication to comfort, quality and style… sounds good to us!

Why We Love Them: Abysse is partnering with the ‘Sirens For The Sea’ charity, a rad team of scientists contributing their time and skills to the greater good, each specializing in every worldwide oceanic and environmental issue, in order to create awareness and to educate the population and raise funds to make our planet a better place. Sounds like a dream team to us.

Why We Love Them: Their mission is all about stripping away the complexities and removing the unnecessary. They’re about living simple, owning less and doing more, and that’s pretty neat in our books. They make high quality, timeless swimwear which would last for years and still look smokin’ at the beach under the hot Australian sun…it’s a win win!

Why We Love Them:
Mark and Andrew are all about finding local, independent, non mass-produced surf products. If you shop with these guys you’ll be able to learn about the producers of the goods you’re purchasing – their inspiration, motives and values. You’re buying online from homegrown producers in a way that’s almost as authentic as if buying from them face-to-face at a local market. What’s better than that?!

Why We Love Them: Wild Things is a small surf company born in an old warehouse in the backstreets of Sydney. What started as a showroom for Gato Herói has grown into a diverse company with a huge range of activities going on under the one roof!  Decked out with awesome furniture, boards, accessories and art from friends all around, these guys know what is poppin’.

Why We Love Them:
Created with the ethos to wander, Rue Stiic embraces an endless coastal lifestyle celebrating elements of surf, travel, and luxe living. Their pieces span a huuuuge range of styles so whatever you’re into is going to be catered for. You could go from a balmy beach day to a fancy dinner party and be totally covered! That’s a winner.

Why We Love Them:
Another Byron Bay owned brand, Vallkree truly gets what it means to live in this town… a need to get away from all that summer traffic. These guys make electric bikes that are totally eco-friendly and are incredibly stylish, making you look great whilst you feel even better. Fusing the look of vintage bikes and environmentalism… they’ve got it down pat!

Why We Love Them: A truly local and independent surf shop, with iconic boards from local shapers and all your surfing accessories. Simple, easy and amazing products. That’s why we love them.

Why We Love Them:
Ladies to the front! Salt Gypsy is a women’s surf lifestyle company that celebrates female surf athleticism, diversity and style in the lineup. They make their stuff from a 100% regenerated nylon warn which is made responsibly, lasts a super long time and they only use biodegradable packaging. Cha-ching! We love everything this company stands for and we think you will too.

Why We Love Them:
They have created premium surfboard and beach bags that are designed and handcrafted in Australia, because we all know local is better. Made for everyday use, these bags are light in weight and constructed from durable, natural fabrics with quality fittings that ensure confidence and functionality for every journey. Everybody needs and wants great beach gear, and these guys have hit the nail on the head!

Why We Love Them:
These wetsuits and beachwear are inspired by beautiful beaches, new fashion and music. They are made using leading edge technology so they are super high quality, crazy comfortable and look amazing!

Why We Love Them: Jun Kurahashi makes incredible hand made boards that you will adore. We love supporting local, independent businesses and this is an awesome one to get behind!

Why We Love Them:
They see their products as more of a lifestyle item rather than your everyday swimwear. Each of their pieces are made from 78% recycled polyamide and 22% elastane, making them both natural and long lasting! For all you beach baby ladies, festival heads and sassy queens out there, you’re going to love their stuff.

Why We Love Them:
Bureo make skateboards from recycled fishing nets collected from the coast of Chile, giving dangerous ocean plastic the ability to roll their way to a new life. Their whole team shares a passion for surfing, the health of the environment, and inspiring others to join them in the movement to protect our oceans.

Why We Love Them: 1% for the Planet is a global organization that connects dollars and doers to address the most pressing issues facing our planet. Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, members have given more than $150 million to environmental nonprofits to date.

Brought to you by SurfStitch, the Byron Foreshore will come alive with markets, tipi pop-ups, shapers, yoga, artisans, films, presentations, live music and the Surf Literature Lounge on Saturday Feb 25 from 9-4.30 (Yoga starts at 7:30!!).

The Surf Art Market will feature local as well as international brands and businesses, serving up experiences, products and design, as well as organic foods, fashion and beats to keep you groovin through the day!
