The BBSF Freestyle & Stoke Surf Sessions are BACK!! (they never left!)

Like every year the invitees and freestylin’ shredders alike take to the water for a froth-filled day of waves, laughs and aloha! There is nothing like the feeling of sharing good vibing waves with your mates and strangers alike and to witness some of the best do their thing is next level!
Come witness some of surfings’ most progressive sliders, eccentric gliders and just plain funseekers at Australia’s most easterly point, WATEGOS!  …The dreamiest place for waves and that summer feeling all day long!

The Freestyle & Stoke Surf Sessions have become an institution at BBSF. Crew come out from Hawaii, California, Japan, Brazil, Noosa, Sydney and of course Byron Bay for this total surf and stoke filled beach day!

These non-competitive sessions are decided by peer vote and are no less about artistic interpretation, with an advantage awarded to those presenting their surfing with style, flare, freestyling fun and equipment adaptability during each session! There are some amazing prizes to be won…like wetties, Boat trips (to Indo not up the Mullum river), and even some $$$’s..!!

Registrations open on the beach at 7:00am with the first session kicking off at 8:00 am sharp!

8 – 8:30am
Grommets
The kids are the future and they’re riding and sliding us through the morning!! (Parents can help!)
Grab any board ya want and get them out there!!

8:45 – 9:15am
Woodsniffers
Presented by Surf Yogis
Riding the natural fibre of wood will connect you closer to the roots of stand up surfboard riding than any man made material. Basically the surfboard is resourced straight from the ground, is sustainable in effect, strong, and looks beautiful. Bring your own, or test ride one of the boards supplied for surfers in this session by Surfers Country Surfboards

9:30 -10am
Extraterrestrial Softboard Experiment
Presented by Mojo Surf
This is the only time you can ever say that BBSF has gone soft… Foamies only…size or shape don’t matter.
Every other category has 12 surfers, but this one… this one we want 20! Mojo Surf will supply most boards just turn up and join in!
Shared waves, sit down, stand up, fall down, slide – All in, come together community and let’s have 100% fun!!

10:15 -11am
Cosmic Crafting
Presented by FallenBrokenStreet

The Crawford Estate is a wild and expansive surf craft offering to jump on and cosmically create magic in the waves!! Half the session on Peters Kneeboards and half the session on an MP single fin…”We called it Cosmic Crafting” Justin Crawford & James McMillan

11:15 – 12pm
Blokes Log
(Invite or rego on the day if there’s spots)
Presented by Warren Global
Blokes only in this classic log off! The invitees will be riding single fins only and voted by their peers to see who can lord it over the others (in the most inclusive, loving and stylish way…… obviously!)
If an invitee doesn’t show on the day, that invite goes open to the beach. So wax ya boards!!

1215 – 1pm
Mermaids Log

Who run the world…… Girls! (Who said that?!)
This all girls logging, lovin’ session highlights the local and international talent of the water women of the world, single fins and classic or modern logs only! Sisters and friends gliding across the picturesque Wategos Waves like the true mermaids and shred lords they are!

Grab your girl, your guy, your kid, your neighbour, your cactus!!!
This is a category for couples, lovers and friends….. 2 people, 2 boards, 1 wave! High fives, cuddles, kisses and fist bumps appreciated!!
They say connections are the spice of life and 6 couples will be showing you why!

2 – 2:30pm
Gliders
Presented by World Surfaris
Guys and gals riding 10ft+ boards. To just stand there and do absolutely nothing is Everything!
Might not look like much but to position oneself in the trim zone on a 10ft sled and tap it for all it’s worth is the honey pot of surf stoke!
This is the ultimate in cruisy doozy and will ease us right into the last session of the day…

2:45 – 3:15pm
The BBSF Festival party wave
Presented by The General Store, Byron Bay
One wave, first to the beach and winner take$$$ ALL!! …We’re all in this together, literally!
50 of you and your closest new and old mates on one wave to celebrate all of us and the festival!!
There’s no better feeling than a bunch of radical & happy bodies paddling for one wave…… kind of like The Pass in high summer but funner!

3:30pm
Finish – Scrub up and be at The Byron Bay Brewery 5pm for the Awards and Live music…and Cold Bevvys on tap!!
